Understanding Palm Beach County Releases
A Palm Beach County release record marks the point when the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office stopped holding a person on a booking. It is an event record, not a verdict and not proof that every form of custody ended. A person may leave Main Detention Center or West Detention Center for the community, another county, the Florida Department of Corrections, a federal authority, or immigration custody. Each path creates a different next record. The PBSO booking history and Inmate Records handle county custody. FDC handles a state prison discharge. The Clerk’s eCaseView explains the case outcome, and a federal locator applies only when federal custody controls.
That agency split matters because a person normally drops off a current-custody view after release. Their prior booking may remain searchable for a time, but the live roster is no longer the sole source. Match more than a name. A booked name, booking or jacket number, booking date, facility, and date of birth can help avoid a false match. PBSO notes that fingerprints conclusively establish identity. Common names and aliases make a single name result less reliable.
- Discharge
- The formal end of a jail or prison custody term.
- Time served
- Release after the credited custody time satisfies the sentence.
- Parole
- Community supervision ordered through the state parole authority for an eligible prison case.
- Probation
- Court-ordered community supervision that may follow or replace confinement.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another agency to take custody when the current hold ends.
Palm Beach County Release Paths
“Released by PBSO” describes the end of the local jail hold. The next destination determines whether the person is free to leave. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, a release order, or completion of a county sentence may lead to the community. A state sentence sends the person into FDC custody. A warrant can send the person to another county or federal authority. An immigration hold can lead to ICE custody. Court records are often needed to explain why the jail event occurred.
| Release path | What it means | Best next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or recognizance | PBSO custody ends while the case continues. | PBSO release entry and eCaseView bond or release order |
| Time served or county sentence complete | Credited local custody satisfies the court term. | Release record plus the court sentence |
| Dismissal or court order | A judge or case action directs the local exit. | Clerk docket and filed order |
| FDC transfer | County custody ends but state prison custody starts. | FDC Inmate Population record |
| Federal or ICE transfer | Another authority takes custody. | Federal court, BOP when applicable, or ICE locator |
| Community supervision | Confinement ends while parole, probation, or another term continues. | FDC Supervised Population or the sentencing court |
Palm Beach Pretrial Release Status
Pretrial release needs its own label. Palm Beach County Pretrial Services distinguishes straight own-recognizance release from Supervised Own Recognizance. Its Intake Unit handles straight O.R. information, while the Supervision Unit oversees more than 800 people whose cases are still pending. First-appearance interviews occur every day of the year. The published supervision fee is $10 per week unless waived.
A pretrial release ends the jail hold while the criminal case continues. It is not sentence completion, state prison discharge, or exoneration. The court docket remains the source for later plea, dismissal, disposition, and sentence events.
Fields in Palm Beach Release Records
A focused county request connects the booking to the exit. The public PBSO Booking Blotter could not be fully certified during research because its result flow uses hCaptcha, so no field or photo should be assumed to appear on every web result. Ask Central Records for the fields needed to verify the event. The release reason may require both the jail record and the court docket because one source may show time and hold data while the other shows the controlling order or disposition.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Booked name and identifiers | The person tied to the booking, including booking or jacket number |
| Booking date and time | When the county custody event began |
| Facility | Main or West, subject to later moves within county custody |
| Release date and time | When PBSO stopped holding the person on that booking |
| Method or releasing authority | Bond, order, sentence completion, or other recorded basis |
| Holds or transfer destination | Whether another custodian may have taken control |
| Charges and bond data | The arrest-stage case information, not the final verdict |
| Booking photograph | The arrest-stage image if public and maintained |
State records use different labels. FDC’s Inmate Release result can show Release Date, custody, aliases, detainers, incarceration history, Date In-Custody, Date Out-Custody, and sentence history. A current Inmate Population record instead uses “Current Release Date,” which may change. A Supervised Population record can show supervision type, start date, scheduled end date, office, and cases. Keep those systems separate from a PBSO county booking.
Request Palm Beach County Release Records
PBSO accepts public-record requests online through GovQA, in person, by telephone, or by mail. Florida law does not require a requester to provide a name, explain a reason, or submit the request in writing. A written scope still helps the custodian find the correct event and lets the requester specify release-time fields rather than receiving only a booking-date search.
- Gather the full booked name, approximate booking and release dates, facility, date of birth if known, and booking or jacket number.
- Ask for the booking and release record, including release date and time, method or authority, public hold or transfer data, and booking photograph.
- Use GovQA for tracking, or contact Central Records at 2195 Southern Boulevard, West Palm Beach, FL 33406, 561-688-3140, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
- For a daily release list, request GS2 Item 22 selected by release timestamp. For three days, request three consecutive daily lists or one exact three-day release-time range.
- Review the response beside eCaseView when the release method or later case result remains unclear.
The June 2025 PBSO fee sheet gives the first 15 minutes of staff time and first ten paper pages at no charge. Later Records Specialist time is $36.61 per hour; one-sided pages are $0.15 and two-sided pages are $0.20. A certified copy is $1. PBSO may request a deposit for extensive work. Florida law sets a reasonable-time standard, not one fixed response deadline.
Ask for release-time fields. The Booking Blotter date boxes filter booking dates and are not a substitute for a release-timestamp request.
Palm Beach Release Retention Rules
Florida Statutes §119.07 governs inspection and copying at reasonable times and under reasonable conditions, subject to exemptions. The public website’s rolling discovery window is not a destruction schedule. Florida GS2 Item 16 Booking Records, Item 22 Commitment and Release Lists, and Item 53 Inmate Incarceration Records each have a minimum retention of one anniversary year after release. Item 61 Jail Docket Books is permanent. An agency may keep related material longer.
Sealing and expunction can limit official access. Palm Beach filings generally begin with the FDLE eligibility process and proceed through the court that handled the case under §943.059 for sealing or §943.0585 for expunction. A missing web record does not prove no arrest or release occurred. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, victim-related, and other confidential data may be absent or restricted.
Does release erase the case? No. A jail release ends that custody event. The court docket may still show pending charges, a later disposition, sentence, bond action, or filed release order.
Palm Beach Jail Release Context
A 2023 accreditation audit gives useful dated context, not a live release count. It reported a prior-twelve-month average daily jail population of 1,884, an average stay of 36 days, and an average sentence length of 63 days. The figures should not be used to estimate who left today. PBSO publishes no live daily total on the Booking Blotter.
Main’s current page lists a 2,166-person capacity. West’s current page lists 998, while the dated audit used 988. Keeping each source date attached prevents a historical capacity from being mistaken for a current release statistic.
Find Released Palm Beach County Inmates
Start with the last known custodian. Main and West are PBSO jails. South Bay, Sago Palm, Loxahatchee Road Prison, and the two community release centers are state correctional facilities or components. A person held locally for a federal authority may not yet have a BOP prison record. Using the wrong database can create a false impression that the person vanished.
- Search the PBSO Booking Blotter by name and a likely booking-date range for a county booking within its rolling prior-year window.
- Call PBSO Inmate Records at 561-688-4340 when immediate county release or transfer status matters.
- Check eCaseView for bond, release orders, disposition, sentence, and later docket events.
- For a state sentence, use FDC Inmate Population while custody continues, Inmate Release after exit, and Supervised Population if a community term follows.
- Use VINELink for custody-event notices, BOP for a federal prison term, and ICE’s locator for current immigration detention.
- Request the PBSO release record when the online sources do not state the exact event.
A released person may leave the live roster. Use the release record, court docket, or receiving agency instead of treating absence as proof of freedom.
The Released Last 24 Hours page explains the daily-list fallback when the goal is a same-day group, not one named person.
FDC Search for Palm Beach Releases
The Florida Corrections Offender Network separates current prison, release, supervision, and absconder records. It covers felony offenders sentenced to state prison or state supervision. A county-only jail term or county probation can be absent. Search by last name, first name, or DC number, then match the identity and custody history instead of relying on a photo alone.
| FDC search | Useful fields | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate Population | DC number, current facility, custody, Current Release Date, detainers | While state confinement continues |
| Inmate Release | Release Date, Date Out-Custody, aliases, detainers, sentence history | For an actual or scheduled state exit |
| Supervised Population | Supervision type, start, scheduled termination, office, cases | After confinement when state supervision follows |
| Absconder/Fugitive | Identity, supervision, warrant or absconder information | When a supervised person stops reporting |
The Inmate Release search is updated nightly and may include people scheduled for release. Compare the listed date with the current date and check whether the person still appears in Inmate Population. Population and supervision data have weekly full refreshes, while release dates and location or termination changes update nightly.
The official FDC released-person form shows the name and DC-number route described above.
The state form belongs to FDC cases. It does not replace a PBSO county release record.
Palm Beach Recent Release Records
PBSO does not publish a release-only 24-hour or 72-hour feed. The Booking Blotter’s default dates commonly span yesterday through today, but those dates select bookings. A three-day range still selects bookings. It can miss someone booked earlier and released inside the chosen period, and it can include someone booked in the range who remains in custody. Searches are limited to 31-day submitted ranges and the rolling prior year.
The official fallback is GS2 Item 22, Commitment and Release Lists. It describes people booked or released during a 24-hour period and may include booking number, name, charge, court, bond, method of release, release date, and returnable date. Ask PBSO for the exact day or for a range selected by release time. Intake and Release works around the clock, but PBSO makes no promise that a same-day public result updates at once.
PBSO ConnectProtect does not close this gap. The agency describes it as a tool for two-way reports, local bulletins, and news, not an inmate roster, release list, booking-photo gallery, or custody-alert service. VINELink is the event-notification channel.
Where Palm Beach Jail Releases Exit
PBSO says a bonded person leaves only after the bond is received, processed, and executed. Main releases a bonded person through its Visitor’s Lobby. West handles bonded releases at West. Family or friends may wait at the applicable lobby or wait for the person’s telephone call after processing. PBSO publishes no guaranteed release hour or standard processing time.
Property and an account balance are returned or travel with the person at release or transfer, subject to stated fees. The separate third-party property-pickup process applies while the person remains in custody and requires written authorization, verification, identification, and weekday processing. It should not be used to infer that a release occurred.
Palm Beach Reentry After Release
For people returning from local jail, state prison, or federal custody, Palm Beach County Reentry Services names Gulfstream Goodwill Industries, The Lord’s Place, and the City of Riviera Beach Reentry Center as contracted providers. The network supports health, transportation, case management, and community navigation.
The county reports about 1,200 state-prison returns each year. That is a local reentry measure for people coming back from state prison, not a count of daily releases from Main or West and not a way to infer any named person’s custody status.
Palm Beach Supervision After Release
Release from confinement can begin a supervision term. FDC’s Supervised Population search can show probation, parole, community control, conditional release, the supervising office, the start date, and scheduled termination. Palm Beach County is served by FDC Circuit 15. An Absconder/Fugitive result means the person stopped making themselves available for supervision. It does not cancel the prior release record.
Florida ordinary parole applies mainly to limited older offense groups. The Florida Commission on Offender Review publishes hearing agendas, but an agenda is not a final decision. Final orders or vote sheets may require an FCOR public-record request. A full comparison and verification path appears on the Palm Beach parole and probation page.
Palm Beach Release Alerts and Transfers
Florida VINELink covers participating county and state custody and can issue notices for release, transfer, or escape. PBSO states that its local VINE feed includes only people housed in a PBSO detention facility. After a transfer, check the receiving county, FDC, BOP, or ICE source. VINE is a notification service, not a certified release document.
The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal prisoners from 1982 forward and can show a release date with a “not in BOP custody” result. A person held at Main for the U.S. Marshals Service may not yet have an FDC or BOP prison record. The federal court docket and Marshals Service can be the better sources before designation.
Palm Beach has another vital custody distinction. Under PBSO’s February 26, 2025 Warrant Service Officer agreement, trained local staff may execute qualifying immigration warrants at the scheduled end of criminal custody under ICE supervision and facilitate transfer. The agreement addresses a post-criminal local hold of no more than 48 hours unless another reimbursable detention agreement applies. A PBSO release can therefore mark the start of ICE custody. The ICE locator shows current immigration detention, not a full release history.
Compare Palm Beach Custody Records
No single search covers all Palm Beach County releases. The correct source depends on the custodian and the stage of the case.
| System | What it can confirm | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| PBSO Booking Blotter | Current detainees or bookings in the rolling prior year | Date range filters booking, not release |
| PBSO release record | County release time, method or authority, and transfer data if maintained | May require a records request |
| eCaseView | Case status, charges, bond, disposition, sentence, and orders | Does not replace the custodian’s event time |
| FDC searches | State prison custody, actual or scheduled release, and state supervision | Excludes county-only cases |
| VINELink | Reported custody events and registered notifications | Can lag and is not a certified record |
| BOP or ICE | Federal prison history or current immigration detention | Neither is a PBSO county-release archive |
Palm Beach County Release Facilities
Main Detention Center and West Detention Center are the two active PBSO jails. County exits are checked through the Blotter, Inmate Records, the Clerk, and Central Records. Main can also hold federal prisoners, so a local exit may be a federal transfer.
South Bay Correctional Facility and Sago Palm Re-Entry Center are state custody sites. Loxahatchee Road Prison, West Palm Beach Community Release Center, and Atlantic Community Release Center are Martin-complex components. A community-release or re-entry name does not mean custody has ended. Use FDC population, release, and supervision records for those state sites.
The Central Detention Center is closed and is not part of the active facility list. The Palm Beach Juvenile Detention Center is also excluded because the site’s facility set is adult-focused and juvenile custody information is confidential. That exclusion does not mean the youth facility is closed.
