Main Detention Release Paths

Main Detention Center is Palm Beach County's largest operating jail. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, or PBSO, states that it primarily holds adults who are awaiting trial and have not been sentenced. The jail also serves adult women, juveniles, high-risk and special populations, people needing medical or mental-health care, and some federal prisoners. That mix makes the word “release” easy to misread. The event may be a walk into the community, a court-ordered exit, bond, completion of a county sentence, or transport to another custodian.

A community exit is processed through the Visitor's Lobby. PBSO says friends or family may wait there, or wait for the person to call after processing. A move to the Florida Department of Corrections, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody is not freedom from confinement. It is a transfer. The PBSO release entry should be read with the court order and the next agency's record, because two agencies may accurately show back-to-back custody events.

Confirm Main Detention Release

The official PBSO Booking Blotter searches people now held and people booked within the prior year. Its dates filter booking events, not release events. Search by the person's booked name and likely booking date. A blank current roster result is only a clue. It does not prove the person went home, since a transfer also removes the person from the local jail population.

Use a short sequence that follows the custody trail. Each step answers a different part of the question, and none should be stretched beyond its stated scope.

1. Search the Booking Blotter by last name, first name, and a narrow booking range. Note any booking or jacket identifier shown.
2. Call PBSO Inmate Records at 561-688-4340 when the change is recent or the online result does not settle the status.
3. Check eCaseView for the release order, bond, disposition, sentence, warrant, or commitment that explains the move.
4. If the record shows a state transfer, use the FDC Inmate Population search. If it shows an actual state discharge later, use the separate FDC Inmate Release search.
5. Request the county booking and release record when the public interfaces omit the release time, method, authority, hold, or transfer destination.

Main Detention Release Records

PBSO Central Records supplies copies when the live search is incomplete or too old. The PBSO public-records page offers online GovQA, in-person, phone, and mail channels. Florida law does not require a requester to give a reason, identify themselves, or put the request in writing. A written request is still useful because it states the person, date range, and exact fields needed.

Ask for the booking and release record by booked name, booking number if known, and approximate date. Request the booking date and time, facility, release date and time, release type or releasing authority if maintained, and public hold or transfer details. If the custodian does not maintain one combined record, ask for the release screen, release order, transfer or hold entry, and event log that document the exit. Florida's GS2 schedule identifies booking records, daily commitment and release lists, and inmate incarceration records as separate series with a minimum one-anniversary-year retention after release. The permanent jail docket can preserve a more basic trail.

Florida law requires access within a reasonable time, not a fixed statewide number of days. Narrow requests tend to reduce search and review work. Exempt details may be redacted.

Main Detention Facility Record

The official Main Detention Center page lists a capacity of 2,166 beds. It gives the facility address as 3228 Gun Club Road, West Palm Beach, Florida 33406-3001, the main line as 561-688-4401, administration as 561-688-4400, and Inmate Records as 561-688-4340. Capacity describes the institution, not the number of people released on a given day.

The official source also records a local history that helps distinguish old descriptions from the present complex. PBSO says the original 1983 structure had 838 beds. A South Tower added in 1993 cost $52 million. Those dated facts explain why older records or news may describe a smaller jail, but they do not predict release speed or establish where a person went.

Main Detention Federal Transfers

Main can house federal prisoners, but it is not a federal Bureau of Prisons institution. A person held for the U.S. Marshals Service may be physically inside the county jail while a federal court controls the case. If PBSO shows a transfer to a federal agency, the entry does not mean the person entered the community. A BOP record may not appear until a sentenced federal prisoner has been committed and designated to a federal institution.

For a person who served a federal prison sentence, the BOP Inmate Locator searches by federal identifier or by name and selected identity details. Released results can show a release date and indicate that the person is not in BOP custody. For pretrial detention or a transfer before BOP designation, the federal court docket and U.S. Marshals Service are more apt sources. “Not in BOP custody” is limited language. It does not establish that every state, county, immigration, or court hold has ended. Match the federal event to the PBSO transfer detail and the court file before treating it as final community release.

Main Detention ICE Handoffs

Palm Beach County has an added immigration-custody layer. Under the February 26, 2025 PBSO and ICE Warrant Service Officer agreement, trained local personnel may execute qualifying immigration warrants under ICE supervision at the scheduled end of criminal custody and help make a transfer. The agreement addresses a post-criminal local hold of no more than 48 hours unless a reimbursable detention agreement applies.

That process means PBSO can close its local criminal custody event while ICE takes custody next. The records are sequential, not inconsistent. Check the county release or transfer entry first. Then use the ICE Online Detainee Locator for current immigration detention by A-number and country of birth, or by name and biographical facts. The locator is not a release-history archive, and a blank result does not prove deportation or freedom.

Community release

The person leaves confinement without an immediate custodial transfer shown.

Transfer

One agency ends physical custody as another agency takes control.

Detainer

A request that the holding agency notify another authority before release and permit an orderly handoff.

When timing is critical, confirm with Inmate Records and the receiving authority. Do not infer the destination from disappearance from the Booking Blotter alone.
